The Sea Bears Youth League (SBYL) is launching in April 2025 to bring organized basketball during the spring and summer months to kids ages 7-14. The SBYL is composed of two divisions, Elite and Developmental. Whether you are just starting out or looking to take your skills to the next level, we have a spot for you!

FAQ

1. How do I get placed on a team?

Team placement is determined by catchment area, age, and skill level. Registration includes providing details about playing experience and preferred level of play, which helps ensure players are matched with the most suitable team.

2. When does registration open and close?

Registration opens on January 21st and will close on February 12th or as soon as capacity is reached. Spots are expected to fill quickly, so be sure to register early to secure yours!

3. What do players receive?

The Sea Bears Youth League delivers a basketball experience with expert coaching from seasoned coaches. 

In addition to a high-quality instruction, players gain access to an enriching season packed with benefits. Each player will receive official reversible Sea Bears Youth League jerseys, exclusive discounts on Sea Bears tickets and merchandise, and even visits from Sea Bears players.

4. What is the cost?

The league fees vary by age category. For detailed information, please refer to the registration information page.

5. What ages can participate?

Boys and girls between the ages of 7-14 are eligible to join the league.

6. When does the league start and end?

The league runs from early April to late June. All teams will get a chance to compete for the SBYL Championship in their respective divisions at the end of the regular season. 

7. How many games and practices are there each week?

Players will have one game and at least one practice per week.

8. When are game days?

Game days are scheduled by age group, with specific days assigned to ensure a smooth and organized season. Schedules will be finalized after registration closes:

7-8U/9-10U: Fridays
11-12U: Tuesdays or Thursdays
13-14U: Mondays or Wednesdays

8. When are practice days?

7-8U/9-10U: Practices will take place on the scheduled game day, with 40 minutes of skill development before game play.

11-12U/13-14U: Practice days are determined by your coach once all teams have been formed.

9. What should I expect on game days?

7-8U/9-10U: Game days emphasize skill development, teamwork, and an opportunity to participate in a structured basketball setting. Game days will feature 40 minutes of structured skill development and 40 minutes of game play.

11-12U/13-14U: Game days deliver an exciting and dynamic environment where athletes can compete and showcase their skills. Games will be stop time to ensure all players receive the same playing time. Just like the Sea Bears, games with culminate with a target score ending, ensuring every game ends on a game winning shot!

10. Is the age group separated by gender or is it Co-Ed ?

Teams will be separated by gender and age. 

11. Can players participate with friends in different catchments?

Teams are primarily formed within specific district or school division catchment areas to ensure balanced and fair play. While players may indicate a friend request in the "Comments/Notes" section during registration, accommodating such requests, especially across different catchments, can be challenging. Efforts will be made to consider these requests; however, approval cannot be guaranteed.

12. Who runs the league?

The league is fully managed and operated by Peg City Basketball. The Sea Bears are proud to support the league as a sponsor and licensor but are not involved in its day-to-day operations.
